Mission Statement:

The Trojan Boxing Club (TBC) is one of USC’s student-driven organizations that focuses on combat

sports. We compete against boxing programs from universities such as UCLA, Michigan, University of

Washington, Cal Berkeley, Oregon, Ohio State, UConn, amongst others, including powerhouse

military programs from West Point, Air Force, and Naval academies. We are passionate about the

sweet science so we work hard by maintaining high-level conditioning and strength-training to

compete throughout the academic year. The regional and national tournaments along with other

boxing shows occur across the country; therefore, we are seeking your support to raise funds for

travel and other related expenses of 30+ members of our competition team.

The TBC offers practices three times a week to members from all levels of experience who want to

practice the sport as they strive to become “scholar-boxers”; in other words, student-athletes that

balance competing responsibilities by prioritizing: 1) family, 2) academics; 3) career readiness; and 4)

boxing. The competition team practices three additional times per week near campus at City of

Angels Boxing. These practices are led by several volunteer coaches and scholar-boxers of the

competition team under the supervision of a head coach, who is a faculty member and assistant dean

at USC. We aim to foster a welcoming and open environment for all students, including those who are

not interested in competing, yet love the sport just as much.

National Presence with a Rich History

The TBC is a member of the National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA), which was established in 1976 and is recognized as the toughest collegiate boxing organization. The TBC also competes at events of the United States Intercollegiate Boxing Association (USIBA), which was established in 2012. Both NCBA and USIBA operate under the auspices of USA Boxing to ensure competition prioritizes the safety of student-athletes.

The TBC started to rebuild under new leadership in the summer of 2022. None of the members had any official bouts but we concluded the year with eight team members competing against other universities. The results:

2022-2023

  • NCBA West Regionals:

    • Eight lost in first round

2023-2024

  • Club membership increased in year two (2023-2024), yielding 20 members of the competition team. The results:

  • NCBA West Regionals

    • One champion (Jordan King)

  • USIBA Nationals

    • Five champions and two 2nd places

    • Best Male Boxer of National Tournament (Brendan Johnson-Corrington)

  • NCBA Nationals

    • One champion earning All American honors (Jordan King)

    • John J. Fitzpatrick Most Outstanding Boxer Male award (Jordan King), which is the equivalent of the Heisman Trophy in college football

    • Jordan and Brendan’s accomplishment were all “firsts” in USC’s history

  • Topping off this outstanding year, the TBC’s head coach earned a USA Boxing national championship in the masters division as a USC NCBA representative

2024-2025

  • The successful evolution of the TBC continued during year three (2024-2025) with 150+ members yielding 30+ for the competition team

  • The results, as we focused our resources on NCBA competition, were:

  • 67 bouts with a 37-30 record

  • NCBA West Regionals

    • Second place for male team out of 14 universities

    • Two champions, one 2nd place, and two 3rd places

  • USIBA Nationals

    • Three national champions and one 2nd place

    • 2025 Most Outstanding Coach Award

  • NCBA Nationals

    • Five qualifiers by far the most in USC’s history

    • Three earning All American honors from a field of 40 NCBA universities

Collegiate boxing has proven to be a change maker in the development of leaders of our society since the early 1900s as documented by Dr. Evert C. Wallenfeldt, Emeritus Professor in educational psychology at Kent State University, through his book: “The Six-Minute Fraternity: The Rise and Fall of NCAA Tournament Boxing, 1932-1960”.
